Townsend Winner of Petersen Award

Taylor Townsend and Carl RichardCongratulations to Taylor Townsend, the 2025 winner of the Harold A. Peterson Award in Historiography. The awards is presented to the History MA student who prepares the best historiographical paper for HIST 590: Historiography Seminar. Townsend's paper compared and contrasted the philosophies of history of the Venerable Bede, Immanuel Kant, and Stanley Elkins--"quite a trio," in the words of her professor for the class, Dr. Carl Richard.

The award is named for Harold “Hal” Peterson, who joined the USL faculty of history in 1970. He taught British History, Canadian History, and Historiography between then and his untimely death in 1993.
