As the home of foundational disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, the Department of History, Geography, and Philosophy invites you to think about the human experience across time and space.

As a department, we explore human actions and ideas. Our faculty members are among the best in their field, and they work closely with students to develop and enhance their ability to think analytically, write effectively, speak persuasively, and construct compelling arguments—skills necessary for a successful career in any field.

We're known for thinking out of the box. We've designed a traveling history museum called Museum on the Move, taken students on field experiences with our GeoTours excursions, and found ways to tell our cultures' stories through new technologies. Our Public History program was the first of its kind in Louisiana and one of the earliest in the South.
