Endowed
Walter R. Craddock Endowed Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of academic merit and professional promise to students with either junior or senior standing majoring in History or Political Science. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Requires a 3.0 semester GPA to retain scholarship.
Dr. Alexander Sas-Jaworsky Endowed Scholarship
Students must be eligible to enter their junior or senior year or first or second year of graduate school and have a 3.0 GPA. Student must be majoring in History, possess a love of history, and be an independent thinker. Requires a 3.0 semester GPA during Fall semester of scholarship year to retain scholarship.
Lee John Davis Memorial Endowed Scholarship in History
Awarded on the basis of academic merit to students with either junior or senior standing majoring in History. Must have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Requires a 2.5 semester GPA to retain scholarship.

James H. Dormon Scholarship in American History
Awarded on the basis of academic merit to students with either sophomore, junior or senior standing majoring in History. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Per the donor guidelines, preference is given to a student who demonstrates interest in U.S. History. Requires a 3.0 semester GPA to retain scholarship.
Judith Gentry Memorial Scholarship in History
Awarded on the basis of academic merit to full-time students with either junior or senior standing majoring in History. Must have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Per the donor guidelines, preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated an interest in research related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Requires a 2.5 semester GPA to retain scholarship.
Bradley Pollock Memorial Scholarship in History
Awarded on the basis of academic merit to full-time juniors, seniors, or graduate student majoring in History. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA to apply. Per the donor guidelines, preference will be given to a student expressing an interdisciplinary interest in human development focused on Afro-America, Asian, Latin American, Native American or transregional or ethnic areas. Requires a 3.0 semester GPA to retain scholarship. The scholarship will alternate years between undergraduate (even years) and graduate students (odd years). If no student meets the eligibility requirements, the scholarship will not be given.
- The following additional criteria apply for graduate students: The student must have been admitted to the Graduate School at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The student must be in good/regular academic standing/status. A student should be awarded the scholarship assistance for a period not to exceed the “normal” amount of time for the completion of their degree program. The dean of the Graduate School and the dean of the College of Liberal Arts will approve all scholarship awards. In the case of an appeal, the dean of the Graduate School and the dean of Liberal Arts will serve on the committee.

W. Magruder Drake Senior Award
The W. Magruder Drake Senior Award is presented annually to the outstanding graduating senior majoring in History. The final decision is made by History faculty members.
John Robert Moore Award for Outstanding Achievement in a History Survey Course by an Underclassman
The John Robert Moore Award is given annually to an undergraduate (preference given to a freshman or sophomore) who has shown outstanding performance in a survey class during the past academic year. The award defines a survey as HIST 100,101,102,103,104,221,222,223,224,307, and 355. Faculty nominate their own students.
The Cusimano/Guilbeau Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research
The Cusimano/Guilbeau Award for undergraduate research is presented to an undergraduate paper that displays excellence in writing and historical research. It must be over 8 pages and have been completed in the past calendar year. Papers must be submitted to the chair of the awards committee. The final decision is usually made by the Undergraduate Committee.
The Amos E. Simpson Award for Best Graduate Research Paper
The Amos E Simpson Award for best graduate research paper award is given to a paper that is over 12 pages in length, uses primary sources well, and displays originality in research. The paper must have been completed in the past calendar year. Papers must be submitted to the chair of the awards committee. The final decision is usually made by the Graduate Committee.
The Harold A. Peterson Award in Historiography
The Harold E. Peterson Award for best graduate historiographical paper award is given to a paper completed in HIST 590: Historiography. The paper must have been completed in the past calendar year. Papers will be nominated by the instructors of HIST 590. The final decision is usually made by the Graduate Committee.
Charles B. Allen Memorial Award for Service to Phi Alpha Theta and the Department of History, Geography, & Philosophy
The Charles B. Allen Memorial Award is presented annually to the undergraduate or graduate student in History who most exemplifies the mission of Phi Alpha Theta, National History Honor Society, and provides outstanding service to the department.
Allen Family Award for Public History
The Allen Family Award is presented annually to two students, one undergraduate and one graduate, who have done outstanding work in the field of Public History.
Undergraduate Achievement Award in Geographic Studies
The Undergraduate Achievement Award is presented annually to a student minoring in Geography for outstanding work in a Geography course. Selected from nominations by faculty.
Undergraduate Achievement Award in Philosophy
The Undergraduate Achievement Award is presented annually to an undergraduate student for outstanding work in a Philosophy course. Selected from nominations by faculty.
