History Harvest: Immigrants and Refugees

Thursday, February 2, 2017 - 2:00pm to 4:30pm

The Department of History, Geography, and Philosophy will hold this “History Harvest” on Thursday, February 2, from 2-4:30pm in front of the main library.

The department is seeking students to share their stories with the goal of understanding the experiences of people who have migrated from one place to another. We want to show solidarity and support for our Muslim and Latino students by sharing all our experiences of migration, whether it’s a personal experience immigrating from another country, or your family’s history of coming to Louisiana, whether you migrated for education and opportunity, or whether you were fleeing violence or Hurricane Katrina.

With student permission, the department will share the stories on the History department blog. Participants are welcome to use pseudonyms or remain anonymous.

Following the event, Dr. Richard Frankel will be giving a talk entitled, “When America Closed the Golden Door: From Chinese Exclusion to the Holocaust.” This event will take place in the library at 6:00 pm.
