M.A. Student Wins Major Award in British Studies

Congratulations to M.A. candidate Ashley Birdsall, who won the 2025 Bob McJimsey Graduate Student Paper Award from the Western Conference on British Studies (WCBS) for her paper “Nervous Piece of Flesh: Medical Misogyny and the Clitoris in Seventeenth-Century English Medicine.” The award recognizes the best graduate student paper presented at the WCBS annual conference and subsequently submitted to the competition.

Birdsall joins a strong list of recent McJimsey award winners, including students from Michigan State University, Georgia State University, Baylor University, University of Alberta, University of Kansas, York University, and Columbia University. The award is named in honour of a founding member of the WCBS.
