On Friday, April 26, 2024, Hon. Rodolphe Sambou, Consul General of the French Republic, knighted Professor Jordan Kellman as a Chevalier de l'ordre des Palmes Académiques. Kellman, who teaches French History and the History of Science, received the honor for his scholarly achievements and his "relentless work in favor of French in Acadiana."

L'ordre des Palmes Académiques dates back to Emperor Napoleon I, who bestowed the first honors on members of the academy in 1808. It is the oldest of the non-military French orders. Today, it is bestowed based on international contributions to French culture and education.
