Mon, 06/02/2025 - 3:49pmCongratulations to Kallie Barron (M.A., 2025), winner of a 2025 Allen Family Award for Public History. The award is presented annually to graduate and undergraduate students who have done outstanding work in the field of Public History.
Barron completed her Public History capstone project, “Ya MeeMaw’s Magnalite Collection: A Cajun Recipe and Oral History Archive” in May. The project, which included the collection of oral histories and creation of a website about Cajun foodways, culminated with a public presentation at the Center for Louisiana Studies.

She served as a graduate assistant in the Guilbeau Center for Public History, did a practicum for the NPS's Prairie Acadian and Acadian Cultural Centers, and worked as a fellow at the Opelousas Museum and Interpretive Center. She also presented one element of her research for the latter, a paper entitled “St. Landry Sketches: Chronicling Civil War and Reconstruction Era St. Landry Parish,” at the Biennial National Convention of Phi Alpha Theta in January 2025.
Before enrolling in the UL Lafayette History M.A. program, Barron earned a B.A. in history from McNeese State University.
