Hernandez-Garduno Wins Drake Senior Award

Congratulations to Maria Hernandez-Garduno, winner of the 2025 W. Magruder Drake Senior Award. The award is presented annually to the outstanding graduating senior majoring in History. A committee of all History faculty members chooses the final winner.

This award is named in honor of Dr. W. Magruder Drake, a native of Natchez, Mississippi. Professor Drake served as a commander in the U.S.  Navy during World War II and earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina after the war. He taught the History of the U.S. South at SLI, then USL, between 1955-1980. After retirement, he served as professor emeritus for another thirty-one years.
