Burley Brings Home the John Robert Moore Award
Wed, 08/27/2025 - 1:17pmCongratulations to Anthony Burley, a sophomore majoring in Spanish, for winning the John Robert Moore Award for Outstanding Achievement in a History Survey Course by an Underclassman. The award is given annually to an undergraduate (preference given to a freshman or sophomore) who has shown outstanding performance in a survey class during the past academic year. The award defines a survey class as HIST 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 221, 222, 223, 224, 307, and 355. Faculty nominate their own students.
Dr. John Robert Moore started teaching at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1962, the same year he received his Ph.D. in American History from Duke University. Over the next four decades, he offered courses on Modern American and Asian history in our department. He served two terms as department head and won three Fulbright grants for study in Asia.
