Students Tour New Orleans Sites for Class on Katrina and Rita at 20 Years

Over the weekend of November 15-16, the HIST 430: Hurricanes Katrina & Rita at 20 Years class spent time in New Orleans touring impacted areas across the city as well as the various museums and memorials that commemorate these historic storms. Some of the student-chosen highlights from the day’s excursion included the Lower 9th Ward’s Industrial Canal historic marker and mural, the Louisiana State Museum’s “Living With Hurricanes & Beyond” exhibit, the Flooded House Museum, and the Hurricane Katrina Memorial near City Park.

Trips like these are made possible by the Guilbeau Charitable Trust and provide our students with unique opportunities to examine close-up the places they are studying.
