We are happy and proud to announce our colleague. In Kīkā Kila, University of Louisiana at Lafayette History Professor Dr. John Troutman provides the history of the Hawaiian steel guitar, or kīkā kila, from the instruments discovery to its transformative influence on American and international music. With this rich cultural history, Dr. Troutman traces the movement of Hawaiian musicians as they travelled in the United States and abroad, how the kīkā kila they used effected multiple genres such as country and blues, and the near disappearance and return of the instrument in Hawaiian culture.
